Settling For Happiness!

By Sunaina Patnaik at Tuesday, December 09, 2014 4 comments

“HAPPINESS [is] ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED”
― Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild
Be it euphoria or melancholia, I have always had a trouble expressing it. From a shy child to a reclusive teenager, I might have metamorphosed into a rather outgoing adult (MAYBE!), but I faltered in expressing things. Always.

Strangely, I was never troubled in putting my emotions in words. All I needed was a pen and a paper.
I believed it was the best I did.
In a nutshell, I would write everything in a journal, pretending the journal was my best friend, hoping my bright pink journal would be happy at my success, and gloomy during my shoddy times. Of course, it was not!
I might as well thank my stars for being blessed with a company of great friends. That did not pull me out of this misery either. My inability to explain even the most exquisite things was beyond my comprehension, however, my flair at expressing even the most mundane things with grandiosity surprised me.

Much ado about nothing.
I reckon the stars had a different plan for me.

I cannot handle extremities, and quite presumably, I tend to push people away during those situations. But people around me never left me alone--they urged me to talk about things that troubled or mattered, they hovered around me wondering if I would ever let them into my world. And I did.
It could be a simple text from your friend saying she is proud of what you do, or opening shopping bags with your best friend, sharing happiness has found its way into my life for all its intents and purposes. Amidst all the chaos of euphoria, mood swings, melancholia, I have also discovered one person who doesn't squeal in joy along with me; that person still taunts me in my joy. But it doesn't matter because happiness is pure when shared with that person.
I have never realized happiness would be this beautiful when shared with you, and I am coming to terms with it. Awkwardly yet happily!

Writer's Block Is Not Really A Real Thing!

By Sunaina Patnaik at Sunday, November 30, 2014 0 comments

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”
― Sylvia Plath

OKAY.

I haven't been writing much these days. I mean, for the blog. I cannot literally claim that I haven't been writing anything at all because I make a living out of it.

I opened my laptop to write today only because I could not handle the conversations between my sister and her best friend. The conversations about relationships and breakups of their juniors in school.

Seriously, the only thing I cared about as a schoolgirl was having a set of Faber Castell’s colouring pens or math homework, and my world was all sorted. But the children these days, I tell you. They talk about serious relationships.

Girls, give me a break. Serious relationships are not something we decide on. They just happen. And I am not really sure if they happen when you are 16. But if they do, God bless you. You are missing out on all the fun.

Take it from a 23 year old. Alright?

I digress.

Alright, so, like I said, I haven't been writing much on my blog. I would like to blame my work for it, but, I cannot. Because I find everything so drab these days. You know what I mean?

It is just that 50 shades of grey is far more interesting than my life.

Anyway. The first thing that came to my head was writer’s block. But writer’s block is not really a real thing. It does not even exist.

The second thing that came to my head was–maybe I needed major drama in my life. Or experience melancholia.

Rubbish.

I was just looking for reasons to avoid doing the one thing I love the most and I have no clue why.

So here's the deal-I am letting the hibernation mode go off the hook, and I will write a little more than often. If I don't, just send me some hate mail.

That drama would surely slap some sense into my head.

Also, I am sorry to break your eternal bubble of imprecise thoughts. Writer's block isn't a real thing. Just pick that pen and paper and brew some stories today.

Because you need to.

To New Beginnings!

By Sunaina Patnaik at Friday, September 19, 2014 4 comments

“Perhaps that is where our choice lies -- in determining how we will meet the inevitable end of things, and how we will greet each new beginning.”
― Elana K. Arnold

I was having just one of those obnoxiously cheerful days. It was one of those days when I wanted to say, "These are the best days of our life," but I refrained from saying so.

I put my bag aside, and started playing Fruit Ninja in one of my teammate's phone. Yes, those were the days when I didn't own an Android phone.

But when I got an Android phone, most of the real world problems began. For now, let us save that story for another day.

A notification on my desktop made me pause the game. It was a message from a fellow teammate:

"Your photograph is funnier than mine."

What started with a taunt on an Instant Messenger led to many emails, Facebook messages, text messages, and yes, I got a smartphone, and hence, WhatsApp and Viber were violated too.

It was one of those beautiful new beginnings which leave you with a fragrance of deep longing and unknown euphoria. It was just one of those phases when life flips over, and falls into a bed of dandelion seeds giving you a feeling of grandiosity. It makes you feel richer than anyone; it makes you grin like a strange creature all the time.

It goes unsaid--all the good things must come to an end.

How else would you experience more good things? And if you don't experience the melancholic days (which will take their sweet time to heal), how will you appreciate the good ones that will follow?

Some beginnings come with an expiration date.

It doesn't mean they were wrong; it doesn't mean they were awful. They just had to make their way for new beginnings.

While you are wondering what to decipher from my midnight rant, I'd say, perk up your ears a little.

You'll never know which text in your inbox would be your new beginning, or a happy ending!
